It's a Conspiracy!
To an onlooker or even one inside, it seems like the universe may be conspiring against us going on this trip. It almost was the trip that never was. Two days before leaving Steve and I were at a restaurant and the floors were wet from all the water on customers' shoes and down I fell landing straight on my right knee. Pain shot through me but embarrassment took over when I looked up and saw all the customers standing there staring at me. I don't like people looking at me! Look away! I shouted in my mind! Steve helped me up and we debated going to the ER as I stumbled to the car. I was determined nothing was stopping me from this trip. Although I couldn't walk the rest of the night, by the next day I was walking normally. Or at least normal for me and no pain. One crisis averted.
It has been raining nonstop here in Kentucky. Areas are flooding, some water levels reaching as high as 48 feet. Our crawl space was underwater and our furnace was its victim. No furnace means no heat. The maintenance guy said he couldn't do anything until the water goes down. "Rain, rain go away!" But the rain continues. At the coldest, the house was 54 degrees. There we were wearing coats, sweatshirts, and snuggled underneath the heating blanket on the couch yesterday, but we were determined to go no matter if we had no heat in our house. Maybe the rain will have stopped by the time we come back in 2 weeks.
Today as we headed off to Louisville, we stopped at the bank for cash, as Steve pulled out he had a collision with the curb, suddenly the car was making funny noises as we drove. We stopped to check. Didn't look like we punctured any tires, there was a piece of undercarriage hanging down. Steve tried a stopgap measure because we were determined to not let anything deter us.
I have heard before things happen in threes. If so, I hope the 3 bad things have happened and now it's on to a very uneventful trip until we arrive in London. I am longing for some authentic fish and chips.
